Paid the Cost

Working at home can be a drag sometimes. Sure it’s great to have the freedom to work whenever you like, but it gets a little boring sitting alone in the office. Some of us resort to going to Starbucks or other coffee shops to work. I know JohnG and Graham do, at least they claim to be working… but we all know what they are really up to. Starbucks is a really productive atmosphere… if you are prepared.

The following are must have items when you are at Starbucks:

1. A huge coffee to get that motivation flowing.
2. Headphones or earbuds to block out the background noise and/or silly jazz music that is played. These are usually used when you actually want to get work done.
3. A social personality, because the whole reason you come to Starbucks to work is to be around other people.

One thing you really need to have is an open mind. Today, as I sit and write this, I have seen the following.

1. An angry man lose his cool right next to me after he dropped his fork on the ground. He literally began swearing and was obviously having a bad time.
2. Three old guys all with the most ridiculous mustaches I have ever seen. I think they were in some kind of mustache club or society.
3. A drag queen, dressed in a power suit. This one totally caught me off guard. His voice was a dead giveaway as was his adam’s apple. SUPER!

As weird as the above sounds, I still end up making it up to Starbucks a few times per week. This is because working alone is very boring, and heading out to work in social environments is a great alternative to doing this.
